18th October 2002 (Owestry)
Near the Home of the Modern Olympics in Oswestry, the Spirit of England and Education and the Spirit of Europe and Education were doused in the traditional champagne by Owen Patterson MP.

The ceremony took place at Shropshire Paddlesports venue on the Montgomery canal at the Queens Head near Oswestry.

Pupils from local schools joined members of the club for a series of trips along the canal. This is just one of a number of launches across the UK this year which follows a ten day relay on the River Main in Germany during 2002.

David Train has enlisted the help of Euro MP's to help him spread his philosophy of working together through his MAIN Academy's use of the boats within schools and businesses.
